Have you ever walked into a display home and questioned the design of a kitchen? While many display homes are built to show what a builder can do, the design of certain spaces can be a point of concern for many. The right configuration of an open planned kitchen can provide so many benefits to a family that live with the design. This before and after of a kitchen renovation in a family home, shows how an original design can be improved to maximise the living space adjoining the kitchen.
In today’s post, I’m sharing a friend’s newly renovated kitchen. The before and after photos show how some simple changes to the layout of the kitchen bench, can have an incredible effect on the size and layout of the living space. And the new kitchen looks amazing.
This was the kitchen before the renovation.
And the kitchen after the renovation.
The kitchen was installed and project managed by Ryan from Next Bespoke Homes. The reno took approximately 3 weeks from demo to completion.
Jenny, the owner of the kitchen, explained, “Not only has the reno provided more storage space, but created more space in our family living areas of the house.
“The island bench is great – I like how I can wash-up whilst the kids finish up opposite me and we can still engage in conversation.”
Jenny said they saved on their kitchen renovation by shopping around online. They sourced the tile splashback online, as well as the appliances and tap.
The black sink and mixer are both from Oliveri. It certainly modernises the kitchen and fits well with the overall colour scheme.
The charcoal and white cabinetry is what is called the ‘tuxedo’ look in kitchens. The mix of handles shows you can have the best of both worlds when it comes to deciding what’s practical for cupboards and drawers.
Best of all, the neutral colour scheme allows for coloured appliances to add a pop of colour.
While having a new kitchen and appliances is exciting enough, the benefit of having a more open planned space, allows for better family interactions and subsequent memories as the kids grow up.
Thank you Jenny for allowing us to see your new kitchen. It shows how a new configuration can add so much value to a home.
