2024 bathroom trends in Australia

The 2024 bathrooms trends in Australia are a carry on from the designs that were evolved in 2023.

The desire to create a bathroom that delights in both visual design and experience are what will drive many of the selection choices in bathrooms this year.

If 2024 is the year you’re planning to renovate your bathroom, these trends may inspire your selections.

Natural and Organic Materials

Natural and organic are the buzz words for bathrooms this year. This is nothing new from previous years. But there is a growing desire to design a bathroom that will go beyond trends and last longer than a decade to prevent expenditure on a sooner-than-later future renovation and prevent unnecessary landfill for materials that have deteriorated prematurely.

Natural materials respond well to wet and humid environments so incorporating these in bathroom design allows for a well thought out bathroom that will last beyond the circulation of trends.

Marble, tiles, stone and hardwood timber are going to be the preferred choices for bathroom materials.

For budget friendly floor and wall coverings, terrazzo is still having its moment in bathrooms. Its availability and affordability are what drives its popularity in bathroom designs. As terrazzo provides a mix of fragments from natural materials like quartz, granite, marble and glass, it lends itself well with the natural and organic theme.

All the curves

Curved vanities, mirrors, shower screens and bathroom walls will be prevalent in bathroom designs this year. Again, not a new trend as round mirrors and curved walls have been seen before.

However, curved vanities are a newer trend that has been adopted in bathrooms due to adding a softer focal point by removing the square edges that have been prevalent in rectangular vanities we’ve been used to.

Ledges and niches

The bathroom ledge and shower niche are still a popular storage design in bathrooms. A shower seat is becoming a prevalent feature in showers. The ledge lends well to mixing wall materials. Niches can add interest to the shower with a feature tile background.

Dramatic feature walls

A dramatic feature wall in the bathroom can be a visual delight to the space. Whether its tiles laid from floor to ceiling in the shower or wallpaper behind the vanity, a dramatic feature wall can bring color and interest to the space.

Heating experience

Steam showers are a luxurious addition to bathrooms if space allows for it. Alternatively heated towel rails or heat radiating from tiles to turn your towel rail into a heated one are becoming more widely utilized to encourage a deluxe bathroom experience.

Bathroom Taps and Fixtures still in on trend.

These selections are still prevalent in bathroom designs and will continue to trend in 2024.
